(SARASOTA, FL) Success breeds imitation. Barbara Walters creation, “The View”, like it or not, has been a ratings success for the ABC Television Network for 17 years. Despite undergoing a myriad of host changes, including bringing back Rosie O’Donnell this upcoming season, the show continues to create a buzz in the media world. With that in mind, WWSB Channel 7, Sarasota’s ABC affiliate, is launching its own daily version of the network show titled “Suncoast View” which will premiere on September 8th at 4PM.
ABC 7 Sarasota has announced its team of Co-Hosts for “Suncoast View,” to include Stephanie Roberts, Co-Anchor of ABC 7’s Good Morning Suncoast, who will serve as the show’s moderator. Veteran reporter Linda Carson, ABC 7 Reporter Bobeth Yates and ABC 7 Political Contributor, Regina Hopper round out the panel.
Like the network version of the show, “Suncoast View” will feature the co-hosts discussing local “hot topics” in the news, sharing their opinions and engaging in hopefully lively conversations on every day issues and subjects such as parenting, relationships, cooking, fashion, entertainment, home & garden and politics. The program will also include interviews with newsmakers and stories trending on social media.
WWSB-TV GM Jeff Benninghoff, said, “ABC 7 is fortunate to have a team of strong, versatile on-air talent. Stephanie, Linda, Bobeth and Regina each have unique backgrounds and interesting life experiences that will serve them well in this particular kind of talk show format. I’m confident that this team will prove to be an engaging and entertaining combination.”
Stephanie Roberts, who joined ABC 7 in 2013, is the mother of two and has worked in major market morning television for over 15 years as both a news anchor and a meteorologist. Born and raised in Chicago, she has a Journalism degree from Penn State and a meteorology certification from Mississippi State University. Roberts has made numerous appearances as guest weather anchor on Good Morning America, most recently in June. She also serves occasionally as a guest host on the Home Shopping Network. Off the set, Roberts spends her time on sports fields with her daughter, Reagan and son, Ryan. The family shares a love of all sports and enjoys visiting area beaches, biking, fishing and gardening.
Linda Carson joined ABC 7 in 1995 and specializes in local entertainment reporting, with popular weekly segments called “Suncoast Scene” and “Event of the Week.” She also does a weekly report called “Amazing Women of the Suncoast.” Carson started her TV career in 1964 as a “TV Weather Girl” in Atlanta and went on to become one of the first female anchors in the country. Carson has covered many major stories over the course of her career, including the civil rights movement in Atlanta during the 1960’s, and was in a Sarasota classroom with President George W. Bush on September 11th when terrorists struck the World Trade Center. Linda Carson was married to football coach Bud Carson, known as the architect of the Pittsburgh Steelers “Steel Curtain” defense in the 1970’s.
Bobeth Yates joined ABC 7 as a general assignment reporter in 2012. Before moving to the Suncoast, she reported at stations in Fort Myers; Savannah, Georgia; Panama City, Florida and Great Falls, Montana. Yates has covered everything from presidential elections to bake sales. She has a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Florida State University.
Regina Hopper joined ABC 7 as a Political Contributor in 2014 and is a former network news correspondent. She covered the Bush and Clinton White Houses, reporting for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, CBS Morning News, CBS Weekend News and 48 Hours. Hopper is an accomplished attorney, having worked in securities and bankruptcy law, and has also served as a top executive for several Washington D.C. industry associations, including America’s Natural Gas Alliance, US Telecom and the American Trucking Associations. Hopper has a JD from the University of Arkansas School of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Arkansas. She is also a Board Member of the Miss America Organization.
This is ABC 7’s first venture into an hour-long talk show in the afternoons outside of its regular news programming. The competition will be fierce going up against the ratings powerhouse of “Dr. Phil” in the 4PM time slot. It will be interesting to see how many local advertisers sign-on to sponsor the show.
