Baltimore Orioles Reach to Host 5th Annual Birdland Golf Classic in Sarasota

(Sarasota, FL) On Monday, February 23, the Orioles will hold the 5th Annual OriolesREACH Birdland Golf Classic at The Founders Club to benefit the Miracle League of Manasota, an organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for every person to play baseball, regardless of their ability. Registration is now open for golfers and corporate partners.

The event begins with registration and lunch at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start set for 12:30 p.m. The classic will feature a silent auction and the chance to play a round with current and former Orioles players and coaches.

Multiple levels of participation are available for corporate partners, including MVP Sponsor packages which consist of recognition as a presenting sponsor, a foursome with the opportunity to select your Orioles playing partner, four infield box seats to a 2015 Orioles Spring Training game, and more. Since its inception, the Birdland Golf Classic has raised more than $125,000 for the Miracle League of Manasota.

For the 14,000 school-aged children with disabilities and their adult counterparts in Sarasota and Manatee counties, a synthetically surfaced baseball field with all the requisite amenities was built in 2012 in Longwood Park, 6050 Longwood Run Boulevard, north of University Parkway in Sarasota. Sarasota County committed $500,000 to building the field, with the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates each contributing $75,000. Since opening in March 2012, the league has played six seasons.

Ringo Starr and his “All Starr Band” to Perform at Sarasota’s Van Wezel Hall February 24, 2015

(Sarasota, FL) In keeping with the 45-year tradition of bringing the most sought-after shows to the bayfront theatre, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall lands the extraordinary Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band to play the hall’s 45th anniversary celebration on February 24, 2015 at 8pm. The legendary drummer will appear backed up by an “All Starr” lineup of top-notch musicians, including: Steve Lukather (Toto), Richard Page (Mr. Mister), Gregg Rolie (Journey, Santana), Todd Rundgren, Gregg Bissonette and Warren Ham. This incarnation of the All Starr band is the same line up Ringo has played with since 2012, with whom he loves performing.

Baltimore Orioles Team up with Mayor’s Feed the Hungry Program in Sarasota

(Sarasota, FL) The Orioles and the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program are teaming up again this year to collect and distribute food to help people in need in the Sarasota area. Beginning November 4, the Orioles will collect non-perishable food items at Ed Smith Stadium and will host the charity’s Thanksgiving Sorting Day at the stadium on November 21.

“Hosting the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry food sorting day at Ed Smith Stadium has become an annual tradition demonstrating the Orioles’ commitment to fighting hunger in our community,” said David Rovine, Vice President, Orioles-Sarasota. “We encourage the public to bring non-perishable food items to the stadium, and then volunteer on sorting day to help families in need in the Sarasota area.”

Beginning November 4, non-perishable food items may be dropped off at Ed Smith Stadium, located at 2700 12th street, on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The collection station is located at the Euclid Avenue entrance, just south of Café 54. The stadium will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day.

On Friday, November 21, volunteers are needed to sort food collected from locations throughout the community. Sorting will take place in the East Lot between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Sorting day volunteers do not need to sign up in advance.

The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that has helped more than 390,000 hungry persons in Sarasota and Manatee counties since 1987. The organization’s Thanksgiving food drive collects tons of non-perishable food items annually. Food is distributed through charitable groups, religious institutions and service agencies. Mayors’ Feed the Hungry also uses cash donations to distribute food gift cards.

“Our partnership with the Orioles has made sorting day much more efficient, and the Orioles’ outreach in the community helps generate more food donations, magnifying the good we can do,” said Scott Biehler, Vice Chairman of the charity.

“Mayors’ Feed the Hungry does not receive government funds, and we are all volunteers. Corporate partners like the Baltimore Orioles are vital to serving the thousands of local residents who would go hungry without our help,” said Biehler.

The program is endorsed by the mayors of Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, Venice, Longboat Key and North Port, as well as the chairs of the Sarasota and Manatee County Commissions. More information can be found at www.mayorsfeedthehungry.org.

Baltimore Orioles to host Select-A Seat event and ALCS Game 5 watch party on Wednesday

(Sarasota, FL) The Baltimore Orioles announced today (Monday) that they will host a Select-A-Seat event at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, FL on Wednesday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. The event will feature refreshments in the Third Base Lounge for fans to enjoy as they watch Game 5 of the American League Championship Series between the Orioles and Kansas City Royals broadcast on the centerfield video board.

The event is free for all fans. Complimentary parking is available in the East Lot and gates open at 3:30 p.m. First pitch of Game 5 of the ALCS from Kansas City is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET.

Fans are invited to learn more about season ticket options, including available seat inventory and try out seats in person before making a commitment. Orioles representatives will be on hand to answer questions about ticket packages, group sales, and pre-game party opportunities. Fans are encouraged to call 941-893-6300 for additional information.

Baltimore Orioles Announce 2015 Spring Training Schedule

(Sarasota, FL) The Baltimore Orioles today announced their 2015 Grapefruit League schedule, which opens Tuesday, March 3 with a 1:05 p.m. game in Lakeland against the Detroit Tigers. The Orioles will open their home schedule the next day, with a 1:05 p.m. game against the Tigers on Wednesday, March 4. The 2015 season will mark the sixth consecutive Spring Training for the Orioles in Sarasota, and the fifth in the renovated Ed Smith Stadium.

Baltimore will face 10 different opponents during their 16-game home Grapefruit League campaign. The O’s will host the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays three times each and the Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates twice each. The Orioles will square off with the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and St. Louis Cardinals once each at Ed Smith Stadium.

The Orioles will play 18 games on the road during the 2015 Grapefruit League schedule. They will make three trips to play the Blue Jays and Twins, two trips to play the Braves, Pirates, Rays, and Tigers, and one trip to play the Cardinals, Phillies, Red Sox, and Yankees.
