Bradenton Marauders tab Michael Ryan as 2015 Manager

(Bradenton, FL) The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their minor league managerial and coaching assignments for the 2015 season. The announcement was made by Larry Broadway, Pirates Director of Minor League Operations.

Michael Ryan will manage the Bradenton Marauders in the team’s sixth season. Ryan, the fifth manager in franchise history, succeeds Tom Prince, who will manage the Double-A Altoona Curve in 2015. Ryan managed the Class A West Virginia Power in 2013 and 2014. He helped guide the Power to a franchise record in wins in 2013. His two-year managerial record stands at 136-139. This is Ryan’s third season coaching in the Pirates organization.

Scott Elarton joins the Marauders as pitching coach for 2015. Elarton is in his second season with the Pirates organization. He instructed the Gulf Coast League Pirates hurlers in 2014.

Ryan Long will be the Marauders hitting coach for the second time in his coaching career. Long is in his seventh season with the Pirates organization. He last coached the Marauders in 2011, before spending each of the last three seasons in the same role with Altoona.

Miguel Perez rounds out the Marauders coaching staff. Perez was a member of Ryan’s West Virginia coaching staff last season.

Ryan, Elarton, Long, and Perez all bring Major League playing experience to the Marauders. Ryan played professionally for 15 seasons, including parts of five seasons in the Majors with the Twins and Angels. Elarton, a first round draft selection in 1994, spent 10 seasons in the Majors with Houston, Colorado, Cleveland, and Kansas City. Long played 10 professional seasons, reaching the Majors with Kansas City in 1997. He collected his first Major League hit against 2015 Hall of Fame inductee Randy Johnson. Perez highlighted a 12-year playing career by appearing in the Major Leagues with the Reds in 2005.

Ryan, Elarton, and Perez all played in the Florida State League during their minor league careers. Coming up in the Twins organization, Ryan spent the 1999 season with the Fort Myers Miracle. Elarton won 12 games with the Kissimmee Cobras in 1996 as a member of the Astros organization. Perez caught for the Sarasota Reds in 2005 and played in the Florida State League All-Star Game as a Cincinnati farmhand.

Justin Ahrens will be the Marauders athletic trainer. Alan Burr will be the team’s strength and conditioning coach.
The first Marauders game at McKechnie Field in 2015 is on Saturday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Pittsburgh Pirates to Hold National Anthem Auditions on Saturday, January 31

(Bradenton, FL) The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions on Saturday, January 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McKechnie Field. Auditions are open to anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner prior to a Pirates Spring Training game. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more.

Auditions will be conducted a cappella and must be no longer than two minutes in length. There is no pre-registration for auditions. Prospective singers will perform in the order they sign up on the day of auditions. Registration will close at noon. National Anthem auditions will be conducted for vocalists only. Instrumental renditions will not be accepted.

Pirates employees will supervise the auditions and determine which performers to invite to fill open spots in the Spring Training schedule. Contestants that wish to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates games against Toronto on Wednesday, March 4 and Saturday, March 28, are welcome to audition using that selection.

The Pirates will play a 16-game home schedule at McKechnie Field this spring, beginning with the Black and Gold intrasquad game on Monday, March 2.

Sarasota Film Festival Announces New Programming Team for 2015 Edition

(Sarasota, FL) The Sarasota Film Festival is pleased to announce new programmers will join its staff ahead of the 17th Annual Festival this spring. Michael Dunaway will serve as Director of Programming along with programmers Maggie MacKay, Derek Horne and Caley Fagerstrom; Nadine Zylberberg will serve as the new social media manager.

“The Sarasota Film Festival is thrilled to welcome this outstanding creative team,” said President Mark Famiglio. “This talented group with varied backgrounds will allow the Festival to present the hearts and minds of independent films to our ever-expanding audience.”

Director of Programming, Michael Dunaway currently is the Editor of the Film Section of Paste Magazine, and the Founding Partner of Gasoline Films and of Poitier & Dunaway Motion Pictures.

Programmer, Maggie MacKay has over fourteen years experience as a festival programmer, including working at Sundance and AFI Fest, and most recently serving as Senior Programmer of LA Film Festival and Director of Nominations for the Indie Spirit Awards.

Programmer, Derek Horne has returned to his hometown of Sarasota after spending the last 11 years mentoring film students at Chapman University’s film school in California and prior to that working in film acquisitions in New York City. He has 20 years of experience working for various films festivals, including Sundance, Anaheim International Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival and Santa Fe Independent Film Festival.

Programmer, Caley Fagerstrom, has previously worked at the Sarasota Film Festival in Programming, as well as serving as a Production Apprentice at the Telluride Film Festival.
Nadine Zylberberg currently serves as Social Media Manager for both the festival and The New Yorker Magazine.

The 17th Annual Sarasota Film Festival will take place April 10-19, 2015. Submissions for SFF’s Young Filmmaker Showcase are open until February 27, 2015.

Baltimore Orioles Return to CBS Radio’s 105.7 The Fan

(Sarasota, FL) The Orioles today announced a new multi-year deal naming CBS RADIO’s 105.7 The Fan (WJZ-FM) the flagship station of the Orioles Radio Network. Beginning in 2015, fans will be able to hear all 162 Orioles regular season games, select spring training contests from Sarasota and around Florida plus extensive Orioles programming on 105.7 The Fan and across the seven-state, 34-station Orioles Radio Network.

In addition to expansive game coverage and pre- and post-game shows, the new partnership will bring exclusive Orioles programming to 105.7 The Fan backed by the power of CBS RADIO’s cluster of stations, including Today’s 101.9 (WLIF-FM) and Mix 106.5 (WWMX-FM).

Orioles games will continue to be called by the broadcast team of Joe Angel and Fred Manfra, who return for their 12th season together on Orioles radio coverage.

The Orioles’ radio rights return to 105.7 The Fan, where the station had previously broadcast Orioles games between 2007 and 2010. Currently, 105.7 The Fan is one of the highest rated sports talk radio stations in the United States.
