Bradenton Marauders to Open 10th Season April 4th vs. the St. Lucie Mets

(Bradenton, FL) The Bradenton Marauders will open the 10th season in franchise history beginning Thursday, April 4th against the Pt. St. Lucie Mets on the road. The team’s home opener in Bradenton is Saturday, April 6 also against the St. Lucie Mets, with gates opening at 5:00 p.m. and the first pitch of the season at 6:30 p.m.

Opening Night features the ZOOperstars troupe of inflatable entertainers who will take the field between innings. Each of the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Marauders in the Majors Deck of Playing cards. After the game there will be a fireworks show from Zambelli Fireworks. Each Saturday game will also feature Baseball Bingo.

During the game, a used baseball equipment sale will be held inside the ballpark. Equipment used by Pirates players during Spring Training at Pirate City and LECOM Park will be available for sale. Proceeds will benefit Pirates Charities.

Marauders fans have their first chance to meet the Marauders at LECOM Park on April 2. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be attended by every player and the coaching staff. A formal announcement of the roster will take place at approximately 6:45 p.m., followed by an autograph session on the field. There is no charge to enter the event.

Sunday, April 7 features the first Kids Fun Run of the season. After the game all fans 12 and younger can take part in a fun run around the bases. The game begins at 1:00 with gates opening at noon. Sunday games at LECOM Park will include “kids concessions stands” focused on providing food options for younger fans, as well as opportunities to spin the prize wheel and win Marauders prizes.

The LECOM Park ticket office opens for the season on Tuesday, April 2. It will be open on Tuesday-Friday non-gamedays from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. On gamedays the box office will be open on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the game and on weekends from two hours before first pitch until the end of the game. The box office will open two hours prior to any 10:30 a.m. games.

Under 18 Baseball World Cup to be Played in Sarasota and Bradenton, FL in 2021

(Sarasota, FL) The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced it has awarded the hosting rights of the U-18 Baseball World Cup® 2021 to USA Baseball and the cities of Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida. This marks the first time since Cape Cod and Fenway Park hosted the 1995 Junior World Championship that the top youth international baseball event will be held in the United States.

The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at the Powel Crosley Estate in Sarasota.

The 30th edition of the U-18 Baseball World Cup will take place in September 2021 and feature the world’s best players from 12 countries in the U-18 category (16 to 18 years old). As the host nation, the USA Baseball 18U National Team, the current four-time defending U-18 world champions, will be granted an automatic berth into the global tournament.

All 50 U-18 World Cup games will be played between Ed Smith Stadium and LECOM Park, the Spring Training homes for Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Team USA is the four-time defending U-18 Baseball World Cup champions (2012, 2013, 2015, 2017) and will look to win a fifth consecutive world championship at the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup that will be held in Gijang, Republic of Korea, August 30 to September 8, 2019.

The U-18 Baseball World Cups, along with its continental qualifiers, have consistently featured players who have gone on to the major league’s such as Japan’s Yu Darvish and Shohei Ohtani, Korea’s Shin-soo Choo, Cuba’s Yasiel Puig and Aroldis Chapman and the United States’ Clayton Kershaw, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and Buster Posey.

Pittsburgh Pirates To Host 2 Job Fairs in Bradenton For Spring Training Staff

(Bradenton, FL) The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold two job fairs at LECOM Park to hire seasonal staff for Pirates Spring Training and the Bradenton Marauders’ season. Game day staff and concessions positions are available. Interviews will be conducted on the spot at both hiring events.

The first hiring event will be held on Thursday, January 10 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The second will be will be held from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15. LECOM Park is located at 1611 9th Street West in Bradenton. Parking will be available in the gated lot located along 17th Avenue West.

All positions for Pirates Spring Training and the Bradenton Marauders season are posted online at Careers.Pirates.com. Prospective employees who cannot attend the hiring events can apply online for consideration.

The Pirates will play a 15-game home schedule at LECOM Park this spring, beginning with a matchup against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, February 24. Pittsburgh Pirates to Hold National Anthem Auditions in Bradenton January 12

(Bradenton, FL) The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions on Saturday, January 12 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at LECOM Park. Auditions are open to anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner prior to a Pirates Spring Training game in 2019. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more.

Auditions will be conducted a cappella and must be no longer than two minutes in length. There is no pre-registration for auditions. Prospective singers will perform in the order they sign up on the day of auditions. Registration will close at 11:30 a.m.. National Anthem auditions will be conducted for vocalists only.

Pirates employees will supervise the auditions and determine which performers to invite to fill open spots in the Spring Training schedule. Contestants that wish to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates game against Toronto on February 27 or March 8 are welcome to audition singing O Canada as well. Participants that audition but are not selected to perform will have their information kept on file for potential anthem openings during the Bradenton Marauders season. The Marauders are preparing for the 10th season in franchise history, which runs from April 6 until Labor Day.

Bradenton Marauders to Hold Toy Drive for Salvation Army December 8 at Pirate City

(Bradenton, FL) The Bradenton Marauders will host “Marty’s Toy Drive” at Pirate City on Saturday, December 8. New, unwrapped toys will be collected and donated to The Salvation Army for distribution to children in need in Manatee County. The toy drive will begin at 2:00 p.m. and run through the conclusion of the Marauders’ Holiday Dash & Drive 5K race. Toys will be collected on the back fields at Pirate City this year. The fields are accessible by parking at River Run Golf Links.

Anyone can attend the event and contribute to the toy drive. Members of the public and race participants alike are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army provides presents to thousands of children who may otherwise have nothing under the tree on Christmas morning. Every toy donor will receive a Bradenton Marauders promotional item and entry into a raffle for four 2019 Pirates Spring Training tickets.

The Salvation Army’s “Adopt-A-Family” program will help provide gifts for thousands of children in need in Manatee County during the holiday season. Many children have already been adopted thanks to generous donations, but the need is still substantial. The toy drive helps The Salvation Army fill the wishes of children that are not adopted in the coming weeks. The Marauders have collected hundreds of toys at “Marty’s Toy Drive” over the last three years.

The toy drive is named for the Marauders’ mascot Marty, who will be attending the event as Marty Claus. The Marauders will offer complimentary photos with Marty Claus to anyone attending the event. Photos will be emailed to attendees in the week following the event.

Pirate City is located at 1701 27th Street East in Bradenton. The River Run Golf Links entrance is south of the Pirate City gates.

Registration for the Marauders’ Holiday Drive and Dash is currently open. Race registration is available online and will remain open until December 1 at 11:59 p.m. Participation in the 5K race is $30 for runners 13 and older who register by December 1. Participants who are 12 and younger can sign up for $20 until December 1. The one-mile fun run is $25 for ages 13 and up and $15 for 12 and younger until December 1. Bradenton Marauders Announce 2019 Schedule for 10th Season

(BRADENTON, FL) The Bradenton Marauders today announced their schedule for the 2019 Florida State League season. The High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates kicks off its 10th season at LECOM Park on Saturday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. against the St. Lucie Mets (New York Mets). The Marauders begin the campaign two days earlier against the Mets in Port St. Lucie.

Bradenton will host 71 games at LECOM Park in 2019. The Marauders will contend in the South Division with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Tampa Bay Rays), Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota Twins), Jupiter Hammerheads (Miami Marlins), Palm Beach Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals), and the Mets. The Marauders have qualified for the playoffs four times in the franchise’s first nine seasons, and captured the franchise’s first Florida State League championship in 2016.

The Florida State League utilizes an unbalanced schedule, creating plenty of opportunities for fans to see top prospects from North Division teams. Bradenton’s North Division opponents include the Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies), Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds), Dunedin Blue Jays (Toronto Blue Jays), Florida Fire Frogs (Atlanta Braves), Lakeland Flying Tigers (Detroit Tigers), and Tampa Yankees (New York Yankees).

Bradenton’s annual Patriotic Celebration and Independence Day fireworks show will take place on Wednesday, July 3. The Marauders will host the Jupiter Hammerheads at 6:30 p.m. The spectacular post-game pyrotechnic display will be one of the can’t miss events on the Suncoast this summer.

Marauders home games will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and at 1:00 p.m. for Sunday home games. There will be four 10:30 a.m. games at LECOM Park. The first 10:30 a.m. game will be Education Day on Wednesday, April 10. The Marauders will also host 10:30 a.m. Camp Day games on Wednesday, June 12 and Wednesday, July 17. The team will also host a 10:30 a.m. game on Thursday, July 4.

Remote Area Medical Remembers Stan Brock

Remote Area Medical is saddened to announce the death of Stan Brock, 82, our distinguished Founder and President. Mr. Brock, who passed away on Wednesday, August 29, pioneered the use of mobile medical clinics to deliver health care services to people in remote, isolated, and underserved communities around the globe. During Mr. Brock’s thirty-three-year tenure with RAM, more than 740,000 people attended his clinics to receive free dental, vision, and medical services, all provided by more than 120,000 dedicated volunteers.

Without Mr. Brock, RAM would not have been able to prevent pain and alleviate suffering for so many people. While Mr. Brock’s death is a great loss to the organization, RAM will continue championing his legacy and caring for those in need. Mr. Brock built a strong organization led by a dedicated 12 member Board of Directors, 34 staff members, and tens of thousands of volunteers and donors. Together, they will continue to fulfill the mission set by Mr. Brock so many years ago in the jungle of Guyana.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place in the coming weeks honoring Mr. Brock and celebrating his extraordinary life. Details are forthcoming, and will be announced on RAM’s social media pages, on RAM’s website, and through RAM’s newsletter. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Brock requests that donations be sent to Remote Area Medical in his memory.

Born in Preston, Lancashire, England in 1936, Stan Brock moved to British Guiana (now Guyana) in 1952 to become one of the world’s most recognized vaqueros, or cowboys. There, Mr. Brock managed The Dadanawa Ranch, the world’s largest cattle ranch operation, a 4,000-square mile combination of rainforest and savannah. In 1968, Mr. Brock arrived in the United States to begin a career in television and entertainment. That same year he began co-hosting NBC’s Emmy winning series, “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom,” alongside Marlin Perkins. After achieving national fame, Mr. Brock founded Remote Area Medical – RAM® in 1985—keeping his promise to the Wapishana Indians of Guyana. While RAM was initially founded to serve as a safety net provider of free medical care in remote areas of developing countries like Guyana, today nearly 90% of all RAM operations take place domestically. RAM still operates a free, year-round, air ambulance program in Guyana, providing emergency medical transportation to villagers in need of immediate health care services, just as Mr. Brock needed care in the early 1950s.
