Tonight’s Sarasota/Manatee High School Game of the week broadcast features an 7A District 11 matchup between the Venice Indians and the Braden River Pirates from Braden River High School in Bradenton.



WENG Radio to Broadcast FHSAA Boys Playoff Basketball Games

My broadcast colleague Rich “Spitz” Spedaliere will be calling North Port Bobcat’s playoff basketball games on WENG radio. Details below:

(Englewood, FL) After a very successful first season of bringing Hometown Hoops to listeners in Englewood, Venice, and North Port, WENG Radio is proud to announce that we will be following the North Port Bobcats on the road to Lakeland. We will have the Seminole at North Port game live Thursday night beginning at 6:50. If the Bobcats win, we will carry the next game on Tuesday night at 6:50. If victorious, we will follow the Bobcats on Saturday, February 21st also beginning at 6:50.

Friday Night Football: Manatee Hurricanes vs. Apopka Blue Darters in Class 8A State Semifinal

(Sarasota, FL) The Manatee Hurricanes continue their quest for another state title tonight as they travel once again up to the Orlando area to face the Apopka Blue Darters in the Class 8A State Semifinal. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.

Last week the ‘Canes (12-1) defeated previously undefeated Orlando Dr. Phillips on the road 24-21 on a 39 yard field goal by Nick Null with less than three minutes remaining in the game to advance to tonight’s semifinal.

Apopka (9-4) outscored Jacksonville First Coast 64-48 in a shootout for the right to host Manatee in the final four contest.

The winner will play for the 8A state title next Friday night (December 13) at 7:07 PM in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando against the winner of the Pembroke Pines Flanagan/Miami Columbus game.

WLSS 930 AM will broadcast the game beginning at 7:30 PM. Dave Bristow will call the play-by-play.

Friday Night Football: Manatee Hurricanes travel to Orlando to play Dr. Phillips Panthers in 8A Region 2 Final

(Sarasota, FL) The Manatee Hurricanes, the lone area team in Sarasota or Manatee County still alive in the post-season, travel to Orlando tonight to play the Dr. Phillips Panthers (12-0) in the 8A Region 2 Final of the FHSAA football playoffs.

The Hurricanes (11-1) defeated Vero Beach 47-28 last week at home to advance to the regional final four while Dr. Phillips beat Tampa (Plant) 24-10 in Orlando. The winner will advance to the state championship game in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando next weekend.

The game will be broadcast on WLSS 930 AM at 7:30 PM with Dave Bristow calling the play-by-play.
