CBS Sports Announces Use Of “Pylon Cam” During “Thursday Night Football” Broadcasts On Media Conference Call Wednesday

(New York, NY) In a conference call Wednesday promoting it’s Thursday Night Football package, CBS Sports announced it will debut a special camera on the goal line. The network will roll out the use of “Pylon Cam” throughout selected Thursday Night Football and NFL ON CBS 2015 season broadcasts, including the possibility of using it during the playoffs and Super Bowl 50.

Throughout selected Thursday Night Football on CBS and NFL Network and NFL ON CBS broadcasts, CBS will use four custom-molded pylons with multiple cameras to film the goal lines and sidelines on each side of the field. The high-resolution, high-definition, point-of-view cameras will be housed inside the pylon.

CBS lead NFL announcers Jim Nantz and Phil Simms along with NFL Today analysts Bill Cowher and Tony Gonzalez and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders answered questions from reporters around the country about the upcoming NFL season. On the topic of an NFL team or teams in Los Angeles, both Nantz and Simms said they believe it’s a better than 50-50 possibility of that happening either in 2016 or 2017.

Both Simms and Cowher are bullish on freshman NFL QB’s Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston from what they’ve seen so far in the pre-season. Simms said, “they’ll both show signs of flashiness at times this season. Mariota will probably have an easier time of it in Tennessee than Winston.”

The CBS Television Network, home of Super Bowl 50, marks its 56th year broadcasting the NFL headlined by Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016, as well as some of the most marquee games on the NFL schedule including New England-Dallas (10/11), Denver-Indianapolis (11/8), New England-N.Y. Giants (11/15), Pittsburgh-Seattle (11/29), N.Y. Jets-N.Y. Giants (12/6) and Denver-Pittsburgh (12/20), during its 17 weeks of regular-season coverage.

This year also marks the second season of partnership between the CBS Television Network and NFL Network in broadcasting Thursday Night Football. The 16-game Thursday Night Football schedule kicks off on September 17 with Denver-Kansas City from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

CBS “Thursday Night Football” Announcer Crew and Schedule Released

(New York, NY) The complete pregame and postgame talent roster for Thursday Night Football on NFL Network and CBS is set. Joining the previously announced set featuring host James Brown and analysts Deion Sanders and Bill Cowher will be an additional set featuring host Rich Eisen and analysts Michael Irvin, Marshall Faulk and Steve Mariucci.

Every Thursday at 6:00 PM ET on NFL Network, Eisen will kick off the NFL week with Irvin, Faulk and Mariucci live from outside the stadium on NFL Total Access Kickoff. The cast will provide news and analysis of the upcoming matchup, as well as highlight the atmosphere and festivities outside the stadium as fans arrive for every Thursday Night Football game on CBS and NFL Network.

At 7:30 PM ET, Brown, Sanders and Cowher anchor NFL Thursday Night Kickoff from inside the stadium. The show will air on CBS and be simulcast on NFL Network during Weeks 2-8 and air exclusively on NFL Network during Weeks 9-12 and 14-16. During halftime, Brown, Sanders and Cowher host the Lexus Halftime Show on CBS and NFL Network.

Brown, Sanders and Cowher also will appear on NFL Total Access Kickoff in the 6:00-7:30 PM ET window, while Eisen, Irvin, Faulk and Mariucci will appear within NFL Thursday Night Kickoff from 7:30 PM ET to kickoff.

Additionally, throughout the course of the 2014 Thursday Night Football schedule, NFL Network and CBS analysts such as Tony Gonzalez, Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson, Willie McGinest, Terrell Davis and more will appear on-location on both the NFL Total Access Kickoff and NFL Thursday Night Kickoff pregame shows.

Immediately following each game, the Mazda Postgame Show airs live from the stadium on NFL Network and CBS. Eisen, Irvin, Faulk, Mariucci and Sanders reprise their wildly entertaining postgame show, providing highlights, analysis and live interviews. Each week, a player or coach from the winning team will join the crew on-set to discuss the victory, receive a gift bag which will vary each week and leave their handprints on the Winning Hands wall.

The full slate of 16 regular-season Thursday Night Football games will be produced by CBS with its broadcasters and production team, including Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and Tracy Wolfson. The Thursday Night Football schedule kicks off on September 11 with Steelers vs. Ravens from Baltimore.

“Thursday Night Football” Launches with Primetime Special “Under The Lights” on Wednesday, Sept. 10 on CBS

(New York, NY) Thursday Night Football launches its first-ever Network television coverage with a primetime special, “Under The Lights”, on Wednesday, Sept. 10 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network and also on NFL Network on Tuesday, Sept. 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET).

CBS Sports’ lead NFL play-by-play announcer and the voice of Thursday Night Football Jim Nantz will host the one-hour special that will celebrate some of the greatest and most memorable moments in the history of prime time football and preview the Thursday Night Football schedule.

The special will revisit classic primetime moments in NFL history and feature conversations between CBS and NFL stars including Mark Harmon, Tom Selleck, LL Cool J, Billy Gardell, Jerry Rice, Andrew Luck, Jadaveon Clowney, Ben Roethlisberger, Earl Campbell and Julio Jones as they recall their fondest and most memorable primetime moments. Campbell and Clowney talk about what it means to be a rookie in Houston, while Harmon and Luck talk Pac 10 (Pac 12) football and what it means to play in prime time.

CBS and NFL Network will begin its Network debut coverage of Thursday Night Football on September 11 with the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the Baltimore Ravens. Nantz and Phil Simms, along with Tracy Wolfson reporting, will call the action. The full slate of 16 regular-season Thursday Night Football games will be produced by CBS with its broadcasters and production team.

CBS Sports Adds Former NFL Referee Mike Carey to Football Broadcasts This Season

(New York, NY) CBS Sports has added former NFL Official Mike Carey to the broadcast team for coverage of Thursday Night Football on CBS and NFL Network, and THE NFL ON CBS coverage on Sundays during the 2014 NFL season.

Carey will provide rules analysis, interpretation and explanations on Thursday nights from the game site, as well as NFL Network’s studio in Culver City, California and on Sundays from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.

“So many times throughout the years of watching Mike officiate, I often thought it would be great to have him someday work for CBS explaining the calls on the field,” said McManus. “We’re excited that this has now come to fruition. He will be a great complement to our Thursday Night Football and Sunday afternoon coverage.”

Carey spent 24 years as an NFL official, including 19 as a referee. He joined the NFL from the Western Athletic Conference in 1990 as a side judge. Carey was promoted to referee for the start of the 1995 NFL season. He was the referee for Super Bowl XLII (New England Patriots-N.Y. Giants). In addition, he has officiated four playoff games as a side judge (two Wild Cards and two Conference Championships) and 14 playoff games as a referee (eight Wild Cards, five Divisionals and Super Bowl XLII).

Carey is the co-owner of Seirus Innovation, a privately held company that manufactures ski and snowboarding gloves, face protection, and other cold-weather accessories. He also is an inventor who owns or shares eight ski apparel patents. Carey is a past Chairman of the Board of Snow Sports Industries of America’s, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the NFL Officials Association.
